Research essay

1.Throughout the semester you will visit ONE of Tallahassee’s historical museums and write your visit paper.

  1. The LOCAL MUSEUMS ARE:

MUSEUM OF FLORIDA HISTORY

JOHN GILMORE RILEY CENTER/MUSEUM

FLORIDA HISTORIC CAPITOL MUSEUM[1]

MISSION SAN LUIS

TALLAHASSEE MUSEUM

THE Grove (Old Governor’s Mansion known officially as the Call-Collins House at the Grove)

  1. For directions to the museums and their hours of operation, go to the Museum Websites. There you will find the websites with all the necessary information.
  2. When you arrive at the museum, obtain a brochure from the visitor desk. Tour the museum, jotting down notes about the exhibits that you see. When you finish your tour, have a museum employee or historical re-enactor sign and date your brochure. They will be glad to do this!
  3. Snap a picture of yourself (“selfies” are acceptable but if you go with a group have someone else take the picture) at the museum and embed it into your paper. Your paper must be written in MS WORD and have the picture embedded in it. The picture is a requirement! Find an interesting exhibit, artifact, or sign and take your picture with it. Have fun! If you do NOT include an image the paper can NOT exceed a score of 80.
  4. Write a minimum 1000 word essay (typed, double spaced, one inch margins in MS Word) describing the museum exhibits. Your first paragraph is your introduction. Your “body” (multiple paragraphs) is a summary of the content of the museum and its historical significance. Tie the content of the museum to the themes of our class and any specific content that matches the content from our lectures and/or the textbook. You can paraphrase our notes or supplement the content from the Museum with what is found in our textbook. The last section in your paper should include your own thoughts about the museum.  Did you enjoy the visit? Did you learn anything new?  Did the visit influence your thinking about the past? IMPORTANT: You must write about your own thoughts and observations. You should also visit any of the museums’ websites. All website information must be either clearly quoted or put into your own words. The Library has the info on Chicago Manual of Style/Turabian citations. The bulk of your paper can be your own thoughts and observations but do include some properly cited museum website information, our textbook and/or additional sources. YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST THREE CITATIONS (one from our textbook, one from the museum’s brochure or website and a third from any academic source)![2] Do not cut and paste from the museum website. You will receive 0 points if you do that.  If you do NOT include citations (also referred to as footnotes) the paper can NOT exceed a score of 80.
  5. 7. SPELL CHECK and GRAMMAR CHECK. Run an MS WORD spell and grammar check before turning the paper in.
  6. STAPLE your signed and dated brochure to your paper and bring it to class on the day that you formally submit. STAPLE STAPLE STAPLE!
  7. Please sign the Museum Guest Book if it is out and displayed. This benefits the museum by helping it document attendance for funding purposes.
  8. Remember, your primary assignment is to HAVE FUN! Go when you have some time and are not in a rush. Going with friends, spouses, relatives, significant others or young children can make the visit even more enjoyable! (The museums are child friendly)  And, of course, visiting a museum or historic site is a great way to broaden your perspective on the modern world!

[1] Both the historic Capitol and the Grove include “bonus” points. If you visit these sites and identify the Director by name you can earn +2 for that submission.

[2] Here is exactly how you should add a textbook to your work cited page (in Turabian style): Shi, David Emory. America: A Narrative History, Volume 1. 11th edition. New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 2016. For footnotes, you will do the following: George Tindall and David Emory Shi. America: A Narrative History, Volume 1. 11th edition (New York: W.W. Norton, 2016) p.#.

wee 4 Task : Memo

Resources: Employment Law for Business, Ch. 2, 11, & 13; Grading Guide: Reasonable Accommodation and Undue Hardship

As a first-year Human Resource Specialist at “State of Estates” estate planning firm, your boss (Will N. Trusts) presents you with the following two scenarios:
Scenario 1

Ned was hired six weeks ago by “State of Estates” to supervise the call center on weekends. At the time of hire, Ned did not disclose that he is a follower of the “Weekend Warriors” religion. In observance of his religious practices, Ned may not work Saturday mornings before noon. Ned called out of work three Saturday mornings in a row, costing the company extra overtime costs. The company looked to re-arrange the schedule, but to pull in a more senior supervisor on the weekend would require time-and-a-half pay. In addition, call-center statistics indicate a drop in productivity when there is a change of supervisor mid-day. The company would like to terminate Ned’s employment.

Would Ned have an argument for religious discrimination against “State of Estates?” Why or why not?
If yes, would the company be able to assert any defenses under these circumstances?

Scenario 2

Ella works in the accounting department in the northern satellite office of the company. She has been employed for four years, and performed her job well until recently, when she was caught sleeping on the job numerous times. Ella explained to her supervisor that she suffers from sleep apnea and has not been sleeping well at night. She requested a special caffeine supplement, at $200 daily, to keep her focused on the spreadsheets.

What factors would a court consider in determining whether Ella’s sleep apnea qualifies her for protection under the ADA?
Would “State of Estates” have to provide the requested accommodation of the caffeine pills in this instance? Why or why not?

Create two 350-word memos in one document based on these two scenarios.

Format your memos, including citations and references consistent with APA guidelines.

Submit your assignment.

Professor’s comment: Hello Class,

This week, we are exploring the Healthy People Objectives for Community Settings. Please take a moment to reflect on the below questions and share your thoughts.

  1. Have you had experience working in any of these settings? Please identify the type of setting and share your experiences with us. Keep confidentiality in mind; do not share specific names or locations of agencies.
  2. There are organizations that help to guide nursing practice in specific settings. Visit one of the organization’s websites and find information about the professional standards and educational requirements. Remember to cite your source for the information. Share this information with the group and consider what challenges might be encountered when trying to attain these standards.

Nursing

Throughout the course you have developed aspects of your Academic and Professional Development Plan. You have thought a great deal about your vision and goals, your academic and professional network of support, research strategies and other tools you will need, the integrity of your work, and the value of consulting the work of others. With your portfolio in place, it is now time to finalize your blueprint for success.

Much as builders remain cognizant of the building standards as they plan and begin construction, nurses must remain mindful of the formal standards of practice that govern their specialties. A good understanding of these standards can help ensure that your success plan includes any steps necessary to excel within your chosen specialty.

In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by developing the final component–a review of your specialty standards of practice. You will also submit your final version of the document, including Parts 1–5.

To Prepare:

  • Review the scope and standards of practice or competencies related to your chosen specialty in the resources for this module.
  • Review the MSN specializations offered at Walden by viewing the module resource, Walden University. (n.d.). Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Examine professional organizations related to the specialization you have chosen and identify at least one to focus on for this Assignment.
  • Reflect on the thoughts you shared in the Discussion forum regarding your choice of a specialty, any challenges you have encountered in making this choice, and any feedback you have received from colleagues in the Discussion.

The Assignment:
Complete the following items and incorporate them into the final version of your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan.

  • With the resources specific to the MSN specialization and the, Walden University. (n.d.). Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), shared in this module, write a paragraph or make a Nursing Specialty Comparison table, comparing at least two nursing specialties that include your selected specialization and second-preferred specialization.
  • Write a 2- to 3-paragraph justification statement identifying your reasons for choosing your MSN specialization. Incorporate feedback you received from colleagues in this Module’s Discussion forum.
  • Identify the professional organization related to your chosen specialization for this Assignment, and explain how you can become an active member of this organization.
