Choose a paper that reads the same two papers, but the second one has more details than the first one. (The first paper is 500 words) (the second paper is 1200 words)

The purpose of this term paper is to: 1) read a real scientific paper (also known as a

journal article). 2) Evaluate the methods and conclusions of the paper. Lastly 3) write a

summary of the paper and your thoughts on it.

For this assignment, I have provided a list of potential papers to read (see next page).

HOWEVER, you do NOT HAVE to pick one of these. Please feel free to find one on your own that

you find interesting! I recommend reading something from the journals “Nature” or “Science”

because those are normally written for more general audiences. It can be new or old!

For the outline (Due September 25th) I expect you to 1) have read the paper at least

once, and 2) write approximately 500 words on what the paper is about, and an overview of

what the methods were. You can also expand on this by looking to see if any newspapers (or

other sources of news) wrote an article about the paper and compare what the new article said

to what the paper actually said. Include what paper you chose (authors, year the paper was

written, title of the paper, and journal it is from) in your outline. The more you give me now,

the more feedback I can provide to ensure you final paper is as good as possible!

For the final paper (due December 4) you will be graded on the following:

1) Is the student’s paper approximately 1200 words (approximately 3 pages double

spaced)?

2) Does the student’s paper contain all the proper citations (e.g. do they reference the

paper they chose and any other supplementary information)?

3) Did the student clearly outline the question(s) the paper they read is(are) trying

address?

4) Did the student clearly describe the methods discussed in the paper they read?

5) Did the student evaluate the methods used and discuss why or why not the proposed

methods seemed appropriate?

6) Did the student evaluate the conclusions of the paper?

7) Did the student talk about why the paper they chose is important and how it can be

applied to better understand nature?

8) Does the paper contain numerous typos or poor grammar?
